Now and Laters were originally introduced by the Phoenix Candy Company in 1962 with its original red, green, and blue flavors. Though the corresponding artificial flavors between Laffy Taffys and Now and Laters are almost indistinguishable, the Now and Later is subtly less sweet than the Laffy Taffy which is a nice relief from the shockingly sugary Laffy Taffy. For now let us begin with the simple recipe for hard candy below. This vodka-based crowd pleaser is made with 5 other ingredients: watermelon schnapps, grenadine syrup, dekuyper sour apple pucker schnapps, sweet and sour. Compared to the Laffy Taffy, the “Soft’ N Chewy” Now and Later has a slightly denser consistency than the Laffy Taffy which has a greater ‘denture danger’ is softer and stickier. I would suggest using silicone ice molds when making these candies, to have no problems when squeezing the candies out, without damaging the shape.Or in case you can’t find those, just line a loaf pan with foil, spray with oil and use it as a mold. ![]() ![]() Gum drops will be the first candies I’ve even made, and since then I managed to change the recipe a few times ,trying to cut down the amount of sugar, and to my surprise after reducing the sugar amount 50% less than the original recipe required ,the gum drops still taste really good and sweet and adding some lime juice turned out to be another flavor enhancement. We love candies that offer something for everyone, and thats exactly what you get with Now and Later. ![]() In fact, I may even hide it from my 3 years old son, who can eat an entire pack all by himself. ![]() Among all the sweets, and I mean candies, gum drops will be my children’s favorites.
